Bristol identified Green ICT as a priority because as the prominence of ICT increases so does its impact on the environment as well as its potential to help.

We worked with the leading energy organisation – The Carbon Trust to undertake a study to calculate the carbon footprint of business use of ICT in the city (our Techno Footprint) and to develop a Green ICT solutions database. Connecting Bristol – Bristol City Council’s Digital Partnership led this work.

In the community, Bristol has also created innovative partnerships to support Neighbourhood Carbon Makeover, engaging the local community in using ICT and digital media to promote more sustainable life styles, and the FP7 Project, DEHEMS, which is trailing and testing the use of real time smart energy metering.

On the 1st November 2009 we will launch the new project website www.greenaddict.eu This website will act as a hub for sharing Bristol's work on Green ICT, encouraging more cities to ADD ICT to their GREEN agendas.
