i2010 strategy - key documents

 

The i2010 strategy was presented in the i2010 Communication in June 2005. Since then, it has been reviewed through Annual Reports and most recently updated through the Europe's Digital Competitiveness Report.

 

 

Europe's Digital Competitiveness Report (Annual Report 2009)

 

The European Commission's new Digital Competitiveness Report shows that Europe's digital sector has made strong progress since 2005.
The report was followed by a public consultation on what future strategy the EU should adopt to make the digital economy run at full speed.

During 2007, two years after the launch of i2010, the Commission reflected on whether its general approach remained valid and best suited to today's policy priorities for growth and jobs. The results were presented in April 2008:

 

 

Annual Report 2007


The second Annual Report, published on 30 March 2007, reviewed the Commission's and Member States' progress in implementing the i2010 two years on. It also updated the set of actions foreseen for 2007-2008. Finally, the report set out the key policy issues for the future which were going to be debated during the mid-term review of the i2010 strategy.
 

Annual Report 2006


This Annual Report takes stock of the achievements of the first year of implementation of the i2010 initiative and updates the i2010 actions for the period 2006-2007. It is based on the associated Commission staff working paper, which reviews the i2010 key actions against the background of information and communication technology developments in the EU.
 

i2010 Communication


T
he "i2010 – A European Information Society for growth and employment" initiative was launched by the Commission on 1 June 2005 as a framework for addressing the main challenges and developments in the information society and media sectors up to 2010. It promotes an open and competitive digital economy and emphasises ICT as a driver of inclusion and quality of life. The initiative contains a range of EU policy instruments to encourage the development of the digital economy such as regulatory instruments, research and partnerships with stakeholders.

i2010 High Level Group discussion papers


An i2010 High Level Group of Member States representatives advises the Commission on the implementation and development of the i2010 strategy. The Commission and the Group together produce thematic papers for the Group's discussions. The recent papers were produced to feed the reflection process on the mid-term review of the i2010 strategy.
