The Commission, in collaboration with the Greek Presidency, organised a high level conference on eHealth on the 22nd and 23rd May 2003 in Brussels. This event included a two-day exhibition of 30 eHealth applications, selected through a call, and an award ceremony for the first eEurope Awards: eEurope Awards in eHealth.
The conference was aimed at ministers and senior representatives of stakeholder groups such as professional and user organisations, while developers along with current users of eHealth applications participated to the exhibition. The first “eEurope Awards in eHealth” were attributed to the selected demonstrations of the conference.
More information about what is eHealth.
The first objective of the Conference was to provide Health Ministers and the health public sector in general with validated information on which key implementation decisions on eHealth may be made.
A further objective of this conference was to reinforce the implementation and deployment of eHealth systems by European health service providers. The primary tool was the use of carefully selected real life demonstrations of currently working tools and applications. These were presented at the conference and at the exhibition, through real-time demonstrations.
FOCUSED ON IMPLEMENTATION: the presentations, the exhibition and a number of reports such as the state-of-the-art report on eHealth to be first published at the occasion of this event focused on implementation strategies with a view to support and stimulate future implementation plans across Europe.
A USER PERSPECTIVE: Four streams of thematic sessions included presentations on eHealth systems and services from a user perspective: the citizen, the patient, the healthcare professional, the hospital manager and the public health authority.
MEASURING ADDED VALUE: This event was the opportunity to provide guidance towards measuring the added value of these applications.
