The ICT4EE Forum
The European Commission and the high-tech industry kicked off the ICT for Energy Efficiency (ICT4EE) Forum on 23 February 2010 .
The aim of the Forum is twofold:
> On the one hand the ICT industry is invited to develop a framework to measure its energy and environmental performance and set itself energy efficiency targets by the end of 2010 and 2011 respectively.
> On the other hand the forum is looking at ways in which the ICT sector can lead to more energy efficiency in other sectors such as buildings, transport and energy.
The four industry associations that have signed up so far represent the European, Japanese and American ICT industries: DIGITALEUROPE, Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), the Japanese Business Council Europe (JBCE) and TechAmerica Europe.
The ICT4EE Forum also has its own website which you can consult here.
The European Commission is monitoring the progress of the Forum with respect to the objectives set out in the Recommendation "Mobilising Information and Communications Technologies to facilitate the transition to an energy-efficient, low-carbon economy".
Independent external experts are supporting the European Commission in this exercise, they have issued a document clarifying how success will be evaluated. A first evaluation report on the roadmap provided by the Forum can be viewed here.
