ACTIVITIES :: Sustainable Growth :: EC-TELECOM-UTILITIES Workshop
EC-TELECOM-UTILITIES Workshop
>27 May 2011, Brussels
In the context of the EU's climate change objectives for 2020
- to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20%, to increase the share of renewable
energy to 20% and to make a 20% improvement in energy efficiency - the
Commission is now looking closer at the ICT requirements for the bi-directional
communications needs within smart energy grids and smart metering systems.
DG INFSO invited representatives of associations and private companies to a
workshop organised on 27th May 2011. The goal was to bring together stakeholders
from both telecom and utilities sectors to discuss the communications - both
wired and wireless - requirements within the smart energy grids as well as the
existing synergies between the existing infrastructures, and to review and
advise on functionalities and framework conditions for an environmentally
sustainable smart grid, and related costs/benefits.
Please find below the outcome of the workshop.
