Smart Cities and Communities Communication Launch Conference

Innovations in energy, transport and ICT can accelerate the transformation of
our urban areas into energy-efficient, sustainable, low-carbon environments.
Transport and energy are being revolutionised by digital communication and
information management so that they can improve quality, safety and reliability
of their service offering. The convergence between these three industrial value
chains for tomorrow's urban solutions requires a dedicated EU policy response in
terms of future EU-research and innovation management and regulatory
In connection with this, on 10th of July the European Commission will hold a conference to present the newly adopted Communication on the Smart Cities & Communities Initiative. The Communication will set a reinforced EU policy framework across the three sectors in support of sustainable urban development.

East Meets West on Innovation and Entrepreneurship International Congress and
1-4 September 2012, Nicosia, Cyprus
The congress is organised by the European Office of Cyprus and will explore
new tools to bring researchers and enterprises together from all over the world.
It will serve as a highlight global event for harnessing the potential of
entrepreneurship to transfer innovation ideas into products and services.
The main objective of the event is to promote cross-national collaboration between East and West as a tool to overcome national limitations on knowledge, financial resources, technology and services.
ICT for Sustainable growth will participate in the session “Green Digital Agenda in Smart Cities – European and Chinese cities leading by example” on 4 September 2012.
The purpose of this session is to share visions on green digital development in cities, discuss best practice and exchange information to achieve better and faster results at a global scale.
More specifically, the ‘NiCE - Networking intelligent Cities for Energy Efficiency’ project consortium led by EUROCITIES will present the Green Digital Charter initiative and the commitments of more than 25 large European cities to use ICT as a main driver to improve energy efficiency.
At the same time, the session aims at deepening the EU-China cooperation started by the NiCE project.

ITU Green Standards Week 2012

ITU together with TechAmerica Europe is organizing the second Green Standards
Week from 17 to 21 September 2012 in Paris, France.
The Green Standards Week, which will be hosted by Microsoft, will bring together leading specialists in the field, from top policy-makers to engineers, designers, planners, government officials, regulators, standards experts and others.
The main purpose is to raise awareness of the importance and opportunities of using ICT standards to build a green economy.
ICT for Sustainable Growth will participate in two workshops on 18 September 2012:
- Forum on Greener Smarter Better Cities
- Forum on Boosting Smart Grids through Energy Efficient ICT

ICT Proposers' Day 2012
26 – 27 September 2012, Warsaw, Poland
The ICT Proposers' Day is a unique networking opportunity to build quality
partnerships for participating in the new Information and Communication
Technologies Work Programme for 2013. The event will provide:
- first-hand information from European Commission officials on the new ICT Work Programme 2013, offering around 1.5 billion euro of EU funding;
- answers to questions related to the upcoming calls for proposals;
- an opportunity to present and discuss your project idea, a platform for exchanging ideas and finding right partners to form project consortia;
