ICT for Climate Change Management
ICT can provide a range of tools to better manage climate change, environmental data and risks. The Commission co-finances a number of research projects in this area through its research framework programmes.
These projects look at how ICT can help improve the connectivity of
environmental information systems across Europe and to develop web-based
systems for better environmental management. This helps mitigate the impacts
of climate change on the population, utilities and infrastructures. In
addition, they look at how advances in sensor networks, wireless
communications, data management and computation capacities, enable improved
prediction of changes, better assessment of impacts and increased response
capacity, especially in the urban areas.
EnviroInfo, Ispra (IT), 5-7 October 2011
The conference will comprise the field of Environmental Informatics, i.e. informatics applications for the environment, including the monitoring of environmental status and threats, integrated environmental assessment and reporting, the modelling of environmental changes, environmental management information systems as well as the analysis of the interplay between society and the environment.
