Safer Internet plus Programme 2005-2008

The Safer Internet plus programme promotes the safer use of the Internet and new online technologies, particularly for children, and fights illegal content and content unwanted by the end-user.

Period covered: 2005–2008

Budget: € 45 million

Tackling unwanted and harmful content
Promoting a safer environment

What's new in this programme?

New online technologies are covered including:

Mobile and broadband content
Online games
Peer-to-peer file transfer
All forms of real-time communications (chat rooms, instant messages)

A broader range of illegal and harmful content and conduct of concern are covered, including racism and violence.

Programme evaluation

The Commission reports to the European Parliament and Council on the implementation of the programme. In addition, at the end of each multiannual programme a general evaluation of the programme is carried out.
