6 February 2007 – Safer Internet Day

On Safer Internet Day 2007, more than 100 organisations in more than 40 countries worldwide participated in awareness-raising activities concerning safer Internet- and mobile phone use.

Safer Internet Day is organised under the patronage of the Information Society and Media Commissioner Viviane Reding. The 2007 edition had a particular emphasis on safer mobile phone use, involving the signature of the European Framework for Safer Mobile use by younger teenagers and children by leading mobile operators and content providers, publication of the summary report on the results of the Commission’s public consultation on child safety and mobile phones as well a national awareness-raising activities across Europe.

Safer Internet Day is organised by the European Internet safety network, INSAFE, which is co-funded by the Safer Internet Programme. Also the national awareness nodes that the Commission co-funds are arranging activities to raise awareness on Safer Internet Day. More information
