Find out who are the winners of the 2011 European Award!

 

The European Award for Best Children's Online Content was a competition organised jointly by the Safer Internet Centres in 14 Member States and the European Commission's Safer Internet Programme. The competition was organised for the first time in 2010-2011 as a pilot.

It took place in two stages:

  1. national competitions in 14 countries was organised by the Safer Internet Centres (The opening and closing dates of the national competitions were decided by each country.)
  2. the first prize winners of the national competitions were competing for the European Award (award on June 17th 2011 during the Digital Agenda Assembly)

What was the purpose of the competition?

  1. to showcase quality content targeting 6-12 year olds and which is already online
  2. to encourage the production of quality online content which aims to benefit children in some way (educate, inform, stretch and stimulate imagination, enable new possibilities etc)

Who took part ?

  1. adults: this includes organisations, whether public, NGO or commercial, and private persons as individuals or as a group
  2. young people: 12 to 17 years old

Organisation of national competitions

The organisers of the national competitions decided the rules of participation and the criteria for the award of prizes. Please consult the national competitions for exact information on how to participate in the relevant country and how submissions were evaluated.

Any complaints on the evaluation of and decisions made by the national juries or organisations must be made to the national organisers. The European Commission does not take responsibility for the rules governing the national competitions, the criteria or the evaluation of the content, or for any dispute about how these have been interpreted or applied.

Organisation of the European Award

It was open to national first prize winners in each category and only open to them. Two separate prizes were awarded for content submitted by adults and for content submitted by young people.

The European Commission appointed a jury composed of experts in the field. The jury used the criteria for the European Award for Best Children's Online Content as a guide in their selection of material and drew up a ranked list of winners.
