Consultation on a review of the functioning of the Roaming Regulation
(Regulation (EC) No 544/2009)

DG Information Society and Media launched a public consultation seeking stakeholders' views on the functioning/effectiveness of the current Roaming Regulation with 11 February 2011 as deadline. This consultation forms a key part of the Commission's review of the amended Roaming Regulation (EC) 544/2009 which expires on 30 June 2012. The Commission must complete its review and report on the functioning of that Regulation to the European Parliament and Council by no later than 30 June 2011. Among the key questions raised in this consultation are whether regulatory intervention will be necessary for roaming charges post June 2012 and, if so, what is the most appropriate approach to such regulation. The output from the consultation will therefore complement the Commission's ongoing monitoring of developments in the roaming market, including the workshop on roaming held in March 2010, as well as the input from BEREC and the studies being undertaken by the Commission.
