The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)
The World Summit on the Information Society,
a formal UN Summit at the level of heads of State and Government, aimed
"to develop a common vision and understanding of the Information Society and to
draw up a strategic plan of action for concerted development towards realising
this vision". The process was divided in two phases (Geneva, 10-12 December
2003; Tunis, 16-18 November 2005).
The Geneva Summit adopted a Political Declaration and a Plan of Action which
constitute the basis for an approach to the Information Society common to all
Members of the United Nations. The Tunis Summit adopted an Agenda for the
Information Society and a Tunis Commitment.
