Stakeholders' Group

ehealth

The Stakeholders' Group involves key decision-makers and leaders from European standardisation bodies (such as CEN, CEN/ISSS, CENELEC, ETSI), industry associations, health authority associations, health professional representatives, user groups involving patients and citizens and representatives of current Sixth Framework Programme research and technology development co-financed projects and studies.

The members of the Stakeholders' Group, who are experts and leaders in different health and technology domains in their own right, are requested to provide specialist advice to the i2010 subgroup on eHealth with specific regard to eHealth with two particular aims in mind:

Sixteen members of the eHealth stakeholders’ group met to discuss progress, review the group’s mandate, and discuss its role. This meeting was very opportune because of the change in mandate of the eHealth working group, the prospective creation of the ad hoc group, and the character of the initial mandate for the stakeholders. The eHealth stakeholders’ group co-Chairs are to come back to the eHealth working group in the autumn with a new proposal for work.

March 7, 2006

On March 7th, the eHealth stakeholder’s group met for an in-depth review of its latest activities and progress; attendees included Member States’ representatives. The work included an assessment of the outcomes of a recent questionnaire survey on patient summaries, and proposals for ‘scenarios’ or ‘use cases’ of how patient summaries can be used in different contents with individuals with differing health circumstances. Much of this material has been taken on board in the draft eHealth interoperability working paper which is currently circulating.

January 12, 2006

More progress is made on eHealth interoperability! The eHealth stakeholders’ group met for the second time in Brussels on 12 January, 2006.

Twenty-three associations and projects representing technical, industry, standardisation, user associations and European co-financed projects attended the meeting. Some thirty-five persons were present.

Three individual candidates for the positions of co-Chairs were presented. For the position of technical/industrial co-Chair, Mr Kees Smedema of the European Coordination Committee of Radiological, Electromedical and Healthcare IT Industry (COCIR), a non-profit trade association, was successfully elected. The election of the user co-Chair was postponed until the next meeting on Thursday February 23, 2006.

To give an introduction to the work-on-hand, four presentations were made on eHealth interoperability: framework and methodology; the international scene; roadmapping exercises; and good eHealth practices.

The participants continued with the planning of their work to deliver a document covering the major challenges facing eHealth interoperability by March 2006. They are also planning the circulation of a brief questionnaire survey, and to assess materials direct from the European Member States and also other countries outside Europe.

All attendees were keenly eager to move forward the European eHealth interoperability agenda. The dates for completion of the targeted work remain challenging ones.
