ACTIVITIES :: ICT for Health :: i2010 subgroup on eHealth
National representatives share eHealth drive
The i2010 subgroup on eHealth was born in 2005, as the eHealth working group. It took on its current form after the launch of the i2010 initiative in 2006. Its mandate is to provide expert eHealth-related advice to the overarching i2010 High-Level Group. The main objectives are to improve quality and access to healthcare, while bolstering the cost-effectiveness of eHealth systems and services, stimulating European industry, and supporting European patient mobility. It facilitates and contributes to the implementation of the eHealth action plan.
In order to coordinate European eHealth efforts and determine coherent policies in the field, the EU launched an advisory group in 2005. It brings together representatives of the Member States’ organisations responsible for eHealth initiatives, as well as for telecommunications policy.
Member States nominate the members of the subgroup, who are key decision-makers and leaders in the definition and implementation of national eHealth initiatives. They are complemented by key stakeholders drawn from telecommunications ministries, health authorities, doctors’ and nurses’ associations, industry, as well as patient and citizen groups. The work of the subgroup facilitates coordination with activities undertaken by other Commission departments, in particular the Health and Consumer Protection DG, and avoids wasteful duplication of efforts. The subgroup is supported by two ad hoc groups on eHealth interoperability, in the field of emergency data sets and ePrescriptions, and by the group of eHealth stakeholders.
Regular meetings are taking place, for more information visit the Meetings page.
