European Donors and Organs Registry
Issues being addressed
The Eurodonor project aims to create a portal
regarding organ donation and transplant process issues. The main aspect of the
portal is the data base with an information registry with data on several
aspects of organ donation.
Data are inserted by member countries (Italy, Netherlands, Spain, UK, Greece)
and by other Countries that are not members but nevertheless are interested in
inserting them.
Sensible data are delivered in aggregated form, taking into consideration donor
and recipient privacy.
The Portal will also deliver updated and official information, (e.g. disseminating the initiatives taken in single countries concerning information campaigns on donation) and some information on the different national legislation will be put in the portal. The portal is in English and the static part will be translated in several different Consortium languages.
Objectives
- To deliver updated and official information
- To create a cooperative network, a link between the different institutions (OEO, European Community, Organization working in the sector)
- To increase public awareness and sensibility towards the value of donation at the social and human level
- Considering long-term objectives, to increase organ donation, the quality and the transparency in all the transplant process.
Achievements
- Standardization of the terminology regarding the donation process, especially “potential donor”
- Data input on donation, transplants and waiting list
- Dissemination to Health Personnel in member countries by means of brochures and flyers
