Conclusions from the Project Coordinating partner Touch and Turn Sweden AB
Touch & Turn - "Mediation of rare books over the Internet"

How can we make our heritage of literary treasures, today kept in the archives, accessible in the most realistic way to the general public through the Internet?
This question has been the challenge for us and our collaborating partners
from Karl-Franzens University, Graz, Austria, Zentral und Landesbibliothek,
Berlin, Germany, Swedish Institute at Athens, Greece, University Library of
Crete, Greece, National Library of Rome, Italy, Baldini Library, Rome,
Italy, Keats-Shelley Memorial House, Rome, Italy and Uppsala University
Library, Sweden. But after 15 months ( April 2003- June 2004) of hard work
we are proud to present the result of a new pioneering e-service - the T&T
Virtual Library- at T&T Virtual Library (www.touchandturn.com) that meets
the demands of both the book holders and the readers.
The conclusions and experiences from the eTEN project has given us the
reasons to believe that the T&T Virtual Library, both in terms of service
and technology has a potential to grow into a community where the 100 most
important works from each country will be accessible to academics,
researchers and the general public. The company is now preparing for a
geographical expansion and working in the direction to create an European
standard for presenting, distributing and preserving our cultural heritage
through digitisation.
