Ethics and e-Inclusion: best practices in Europe, Brussels, 26 October 2009
With inclusion in the Information Society growing in
importance, the Commission has identified the urgent need to clarify ethical
issues in order to respect the rights of users and enable thriving markets to
develop (June 2007 Commission Communication on Ageing Well in the Information
Society and the November 2007 Communication on e-Inclusion).
The last in a series of meetings devoted to ethical benchmarking in the field
of e-Inclusion focused on information sharing and best practice
implementation. Leading edge practices were presented to and discussed by a
selected audience comprising participants to the previous meetings and experts
specifically invited for this meeting. The overall goal of the meeting was to
define an ethical benchmark, a set of indicators and implementation plans which
include identification of specific opportunities to be exploited in 2010.
