Business licence or concession
You must first apply for a business licence or a concession at the Local Trade Licence Office.
Once the business licence is granted, you shall obtain a long-stay visa for the purpose of business (i.e. self-employment) at the Czech embassy or consulate in your country of origin.
Long-term residence permit
No earlier than 120 days and no later than one day prior to expiry of your long-term visa, you shall apply for a long-term residence permit at the relevant office of the Ministry of the Interior.
To obtain a business licence or concession, you must prove that you have no criminal history, present a certificate of the legal operation of the place of business and a certificate proving your professional competence.
To obtain a long-stay visa, you shall present your travel document, document proving the purpose of your stay (registration of your business), sufficient financial means, proof of accommodation, photographs and, if required, an extract from the Penal Registry record and a document proving that you fulfilled the conditions set out by interim measure of Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic on prevention of spread of the infectious diseases. An interview is conducted by the embassy to confirm details of your business.
To obtain a long-term residence permit, you shall present your travel document, sufficient financial means, a document proving the registration of your business , a certificate issued by the relevant Tax Authority recording any tax arrears, if applicable, and the confirmation of the District Social Security Administration recording any debts on social security fees and fees for the state employment policy including any fines, if applicable, proof of accommodation, photographs and, if required, a payment order for an income tax.
If you meet the conditions to be issued a long-term visa, prior to affixing the visa, you are obliged to submit a proof of travel medical insurance that corresponds to the specified conditions (not required if the foreign national subscribes to public health insurance or if the costs for health care are covered on the basis of an international agreement or if the foreign national can demonstrate that health care is covered in another manner), and, upon request, a document on paying the insurance presented in the proof of medical travel insurance.
You must register your business at a business court. You must also be registered at a tax office and at a social security office.
When first arriving, you must report your place of residence to the Foreign Police within three working days of your arrival to the Czech Republic by filling out a registration card, presenting your travel document and proof of travel medical insurance.
If you meet the conditions to be issued a long-term residence permit, you are obliged, to appear in person at the relevant Ministry of the Interior office to provide your (biometric) data.
You are obliged to collect the long-residence permit within the time limit set by the Ministry of the Interior, however, at latest 60 days after the acquisition of your biometric data.
You can appeal a refusal to issue a long-term visa by requesting the Ministry of the Interior reassess your application within 15 days of the original decision being delivered to you. A special Commission at the Ministry of the Interior will examine and decide on your request.
Appeals concerning long term residence permits must be brought first to the special Commission of the Ministry of the Interior. If this fails, you can bring a further appeal to an administrative court.
