Period of consultation
From 18/07/2008 to 22/09/2008

Objective of the consultation
Since 2006 the European Commission has been working on the European Interoperability Framework v2.0 in close cooperation with the concerned Commission services and with the Members States as well as with the Candidate Countries and EEA Countries as observers.

The main objectives of the European Interoperability Framework are:
  • To serve as the basis for European seamless interoperability in public services delivery thereby providing better public services at EU level;
  • To support the delivery of pan-European e-government services by furthering cross-border and cross-sector interoperability;
  • To supplement the various National Interoperability Frameworks in the pan-European dimension
An EIF Info Day was organised on the 25th of June 2008 aiming at presenting and informing the participants on the work in progress towards the new version of the European Interoperability Framework v2.0.

The objective of the consultation was to get substantial feedback on the draft document in order that the final version of the European Interoperability Framework v2.0 can be elaborated taking into consideration the comments received in public consultation.

The final version of the European Interoperability Framework v2.0 will take the form of an official Commission position with the publication of a Communication from the Commission to the Council and to the Parliament by early 2009.
