The process of taking in. For a
person or an animal, absorption is the process of a substance getting into the
body through the eyes, skin, stomach, intestines, or lungs.
In the context of electromagnetic radiation, absorption is
the way the energy of the radiation – e.g. light – is taken up by matter. In
this process, the electromagnetic energy is transformed to other forms of
energy, for example, to heat.
