The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has received a request for a scientific opinion on the safety of Silica (nano).

Silica Sylilate (nano) CAS n. 68909-20-6;
Silica Dimethyl Silylate (nano) CAS n. 68611-44-9
Scope of the call for information:
Interested parties are invited to submit any relevant information that could assist the scientific committee on the safety assessment, such as: identification of the type of cosmetic product using these ingredients (silica in nano structured form) and their concentration; protocols of applications; differences in solubility including for surface coated materials; information on adverse health effects; results from toxicological tests with such products or ingredients contained within including inhalation toxicity, genotoxicity/carcinogenicity/toxicokinetic studies, photocatalytic activity and phototoxic effect, or any other scientific data/publications considered relevant to assess the safety of such products.
Submission of information:
All information should be submitted in electronic form to SANCO-C2-SCCS@ec.europa.eu specifying “Silica (nano) - Call for Information” in the subject line of the e-mail.
All information is considered public unless otherwise stated by the provider.
