Summary
The aim of this project is to
promote healthy ageing in later life
stages. The project will be looking
at different aspects of health and
promote healthy ageing by the
development of an integrated holistic
approach to health in later life. The
main aims are; to review and analyse
existing data on health and older
people at EU and member state level
and produce and disseminate a report,
to make recommen-dations for policy
at EU and member state level based on
current evidence and practice for
promoting the health of older people,
taking into account cultural
differences and disseminate the
findings by developing a
comprehensive strategy.

Statement
of project aim(s) and
objectives
The aim of this project is
to promote healthy ageing in
later life stages (50+years).
This range of age may vary among
member states due to different
conditions. The approach will be
to analyse at different aspects
of health. The project will
promote healthy ageing in later
life by the development of an
integrated holistic approach to
health in later life.
Aims and objectives:
- to review and analyse
existing data on health and older
people at EU and member state
level and produce a report in
liaison with EU and national
information system organisations.
- to make recommendations
for a policy at EU and member
state level based on current
evidence and practice for
promoting the health of older
people, taking into account
cultural differences
- to disseminate the
findings by developing a
comprehensive strategy
To achieve the above aims,
the following objectives would
need to be met:
- Collect and review data
and current practices and
policies for older people's
health across EU member states,
accession states and members of
European economic area
(horizontal approach) and produce
a report
- Establish sustainable
partnerships at EU and individual
Member State level and engage
with professionals, public and
policy makers at EU and Member
State level in this process
- Build sustainable
healthy ageing working
partnerships. Partnerships
including policy makers,
practitioners, older people, and
Non-governmental organisations
(NGOs). International
organisations include WHO.
- Raise awareness of an
integrated approach of ageing and
health, with the emphasis on
health promotion in the later
life stages (50plus years), to
the population in general, older
people, practitioners and policy
makers
- Develop a strategic
approach to communicating,
implementing and disseminating
the findings and recommendations
of the report, taking into
account local cultural,
organisational
circumstances.

Methods
To collect, review and
analyse existing data on health
and older people and current
practice from all involved Member
States and partners.
Produce a report including
an analysis of existing data,
review current practices and
policies for older people's
health.
Establish partnerships at
EU Member States and
international level through
working groups, seminars,
conferences and communication by
e-mail.
