Launch of the EU Health Prize for Journalists 2013 - 5th edition
The European Commission and DG Health and Consumers are pleased to announce the launch of the 5th edition of the EU Health Prize for Journalists, whereby journalists are invited to submit articles on health and public health issues. By participating, not only are journalists' reputations enhanced, but also interesting topics can be brought to the forefront of discussion
The prize rewards journalists who have contributed in a significant way to help citizens understand health issues, and through their work reflect the thoughts and expectations of patients and health workers. It is awarded in the spirit of respect for media freedom and pluralism and in the context of the Commission's desire to improve communication between the European institutions and European citizens.
The Journalist Prize is funded under the second Community Health Programme 2008-13.

The winners of the past editions are:
2012: Petr Třešňák (Czech Republic), with the article on mental health 'Adventures in ward 14', published in Respekt magazine.
2011: Ben Hirschler and Kate Kelland (United Kingdom), with an article on antimicrobial resistance 'When the drugs don't work', published by Reuters.
2010: Gianluca Ferraris and Ilaria Molinari (Italy), with an article on stem cells 'Stealing hope', published in Panorama.
2009: Estelle Saget (France), with the article 'Schizophrenia explained to family and friends' , published in L'express.
