Commissioner Dalli launches Child Safety Report Cards
On 12 June 2012, Commissioner Dalli has launched Child Safety Report Cards in the European Parliament in Strasbourg with the support of MEP Malcolm Harbour, Chair of Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee.
The European Child Safety Alliance of EuroSafe, in partnership with WHO, UNICEF and country partners, have produced 'Child Safety Report Cards 2012' for 31 countries and a European Summary Report Card. The Previous edition of ‘Child Safety Report Cards’ was launched in 2009, for 24 countries.
These report cards assess safety measures provided to children and adolescents by examining and grading the adoption, implementation and enforcement of national level evidence-based unintentional child injury prevention policies.
The Child Safety Report Cards were awarded the European Health Award from the European Health Forum Gastein in 2011.
They are part of the activities of the TACTICS project, funded under the EU Health Programme, to benchmark and monitor child injury and related action.
Report cards are designed to provide not only as a baseline and monitoring tool against which to assess progress, but also as a means of identifying current policy gaps and suggesting priorities for action to make environments safer for children in Member States.
