Since 2005, the Executive agency for health and consumers manages calls for proposals for projects and organises grants, conferences and relations with the beneficiaries of health programme funding.

The European Parliament has allocated funds to DG SANTE for a preparatory action to promote the appropriate use of antimicrobials in human medicine: the ARNA project (“Antimicrobial resistance and causes of non-prudent use of antibiotics in human medicine”). Based on the findings, policy options for the Member States to promote a more prudent use of antibiotics will be developed.
