Travel

The free movement of persons between Member States is one of the basic aims of the European Union. The right to free movement means that every EU citizen is entitled to travel freely and settle anywhere in the Community. Hence, EU citizens are entitled to certain rights, benefits and safeguards as regards healthcare, purchases and private transactions.

Recent surveys have shown that European citizens are confident in moving freely within the Community. However, more citizens could be made more aware of the legislation in place to ensure that their rights are protected and met when travelling.

The European Union is making efforts to secure these rights in order to ensure a high level of protection for all EU citizens when travelling. It is important to encourage their wish to live healthily and safely and have confidence in products and services they purchase anywhere in the EU.
