EU Health Prize for Journalists 2013

National Jury Slovak Republic

The jury met on 20 November 2013 and selected the Slovakian national finalist. The name of the national finalist will be published after all the finalists are selected.


Ingrid Ludvikova, chair

Since 2011, Ingrid Ludvikova has been working at the EC representation in Slovakia. She is responsible for regular contact with the local media and for organising and coordinating various events for journalists. Ingrid has a background in journalism and communications, having worked in the media as well as at press sections of respected institutions.

Ivan Bielik, health expert

Ivan Bielik, MPH, PhD, graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Comenius University in Bratislava, Department of Journalism, specialization in media and marketing communication. He received a Master of Public Health in 2004 and later a PhD. degree from the Slovak Health University. Until 2001 he worked as editor-in-chief of the PRÁCA daily. Director of the Media and Marketing Department of the Slovak Public Health Authority and Spokesperson for the Main Hygienist (2001-2005). Since 2005 he has been teaching at the Behavioural Health Department at the Public Health Faculty of the Slovak Health University and at the Department of Health Ethics. He has also lectured at the St. Elisabeth University of Health and Social Work in Bratislava.
In addition to other activities, he devotes much effort to the theoretical study of media communication in healthcare, media-public health relations, as well as ethical problems in medicine with focus on public health. Initiator of the projects "Bedeker zdravia" (Guidebook on health) magazine, online magazine "Verejné zdravotníctvo" (Public Health) and a bi-monthly magazine "Kúpele" (Spas). His recent works include "Základy verejného zdravotníctva" (Basics of Public Health) and he co-authored a monograph "Ochrana detí a mláde┼że – Tabak, alkohol a drogy" (Protection of children – Tobacco, Alcohol and Drugs). Publishes articles in the specialist monthly "Lekársky obzor" (Physician Horizon) and has co-authored several publications on public health issues with a focus on the importance of communication and ethics.

Alena Mosnarova, health expert

MUDr. Alena Mosnárová has studied at Comenius University in Bratislava, Faculty of Medicine. Her specialization is Pharmacology. Her later attestation was Internal Medicine. Firstly, she has been working as a lecturer at Institute of Pharmacology at Faculty of Medicine of Comenius University in Bratislava (15 years). Till today she is working as editor-in-chief in health medium Lekárske listy.


Robert Ochaba, health expert

Robert Ochaba, Ph.D., MPH graduate at Pedagogical faculty of University Konstantin Philosof in Nitra and Faculty of Phylosophy Comenius University in Bratislava in the field of study pedagogy and psychology. Currently, he works at Public Health Authority of the SR in the office on tobacco and alcohol control. He is author many articles on tobacco and alcohol control. He deals with issues as legal protection of non-smokers, consulting in disaccustoming from smoking and educational programmes in tobacco control. He graduated study programe Master of Public Health and postgraduate study in the field of Public Health.


Jamila Horakova, journalist

Ms Jarmila Horakova studied journalism at the Comenius University in Bratislava. She has been a professional journalist for decades. Her main areas of interest are education and health. Currently she works at a Slovak nationwide daily SME, where she is editor of a regular supplement School and Family. Except for this, she actively writes articles about health issues, mainly smoking related diseases. Her expertise and extensive experience in this field made her a valuable member of the Slovak jury for the European Health Prize.
