National Jury Finland

The jury met on 30 October 2013 and selected the Finnish national finalist. The name of the national finalist will be published after all the finalists are selected.

 Jarkko Ahola, chair

Jarkko Ahola joined the Commission Representation in Helsinki as translator in June 2010. Prior to that he worked as translator in the Commission Directorate-General for Translation in Luxembourg since 2004. Before joining the European Commission he worked for 5 years as private sector lawyer in Finland. He holds a Master of Law degree from the University of Helsinki.

Päivi Hölttä, journalist

Päivi Hölttä graduated from the DDS-program of the University of Helsinki in 1978. Most of her dental career she worked as an associate professor in Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry at the Institute of Dentistry, University of Helsinki, and as a pediatric dentist at the Helsinki University Hospital for Children and Adolescents. The topic of her PhD was tooth development in children with stem cell transplants. Since 2008 she has been working as a (scientific) editor and freelance writer, concentrating on health issues.

 Ilpo Salonen, journalist 

Ilpo Salonen is a journalist specialized in health and medical issues. He is the producer of "Terveydeksi" magazine ("For your good health") which is published together with the Otavamedia Ltd and the Association of Finnish Pharmacies . Terveydeksi is the biggest health magazine in Finland, read by 1,2 million people. Mr Salonen has worked previously in the Finnish News Agency, BBC World Service and Men's Health magazine and as a freelancer based in London.

Mikko Nenonen, health expert

Mr. Nenonen has worked as development manager for national healthcare statistics, indicators, and international collaboration (STAKES). He is Senior Health Policy Advisor at Finnish Medical Association (2009-11) and general practitioner in rural Finland (2008-9 and 2011). Mr. Nenonen is a member of the board of directors (Rheumatism Foundation hospital, 2002-7) and a board member of the European Health Management Association (EHMA 2006-2010).

Harri Vertio, health expert

Dr, Ph.D. Harri Vertio is Secretary General of the Cancer Society of Finland since 2003. After a short period of clinical work following his graduation he has been working in the field of health education and health promotion in various contexts like the Finnish Defence Forces, The National Board of Health and the Finnish Centre for Health Promotion. He describes his present work as applying the principles of health promotion in the work of a major disease-centered NGO. His international work in WHO and UICC has continued since 1980´s. Harri Vertio has written several books on health promotion and published a variety of articles, both scientific and others on health policy, health promotion and cancer.

Veikko Aalberg, health expert

MD, PhD, professor, psychiatrist, adolescent psychiatrist, psychoanalyst (IPA). Former chair of Adolescent Psychiatri at the Helsinki University Central Hospital. Publications and research interests lie in the clinical and developmental aspects of adolescence. Consulting editor of some medical journals.
