National Jury Cyprus

The jury met on 13 November 2013 and selected the Cypriot national finalist. The name of the national finalist will be published after all the finalists are selected.

Charilaos Bouzouras, chair 

Charilaos Bouzouras currently works as a Policy Analyst at the European Commission Representation in Cyprus. He is also a Representation's speaker for EU issues. He has worked for many years as a translator and interpreter in the European Commission and in other EU bodies, as well as in the private sector.

He studied Philosophy (National University of Athens) and International Politics (Free University of Brussels). He has a long experience in drafting and translating texts for various communication, information or legal purposes. He is trained in written and oral communication skills and in adult training.

Olga Kalakouta, health expert

Dr. Olga Poyiadji-Kalakouta Graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Medical School in 1984 and specialized in Internal Medicine at the University of Natal (South Africa) Medical School. She Holds a Master in Public Health (Magna Cum Ladum) from the Hadassah School of Public Health and Community Medicine (2000) and the Master in Public Sector Management (Excellent) from the Cyprus International Institute of Management (2006). She is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health since 2007. Since 1992 she is employed by the Government and currently holds the position of Chief Health Officer at the Ministry of Health of Cyprus (2010).

Antreas Demetriou, health expert

Dr. Andreas Demetriou graduated from the Rostov State Medical Institute in Russia (USSR) in 1979. He successfully supported his philosophy diploma (PhD) with the title of “Plastic Surgery of the bronchi in lung infectious diseases” and was awarded the title of Doctor of Philosophy in Surgery (PhD in Surgery). He worked as a surgery teacher at the Rostov State Medical Institute. Since 1985 he has been working in Nicosia, Cyprus as a surgeon in the private sector. He started actively participation in Cypriot Medical Associations in 1991. From 1997 until today he is the President of Nicosia – Kyrenia Medical Association “HIPPOCRATES” and in September of 2006 he was elected as the President of the Cyprus Medical Association. He has a special interest in sports medicine and is a member of the Cyprus Sports Medicine Association Board.

Zoe Telegraphou, journalist

Zoe Telegraphou is a seasoned journalist with 13 years of diverse experience in the Media. She has in depth experience in various fields of the political, economic and social life on a National, European and International level. Specializing in radio broadcasting, Zoe is currently producer and presenter of the weekly radio news show “EU Affairs”. She has a MA in International Journalism, at City University-London and a BA in Political Sciences, at University of Cyprus. 

Chrysta Ntzani, journalist

Chrysta Ntzani was born in 1985 in Thessaloniki, Greece. She studied Journalism at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and at Universitaet Hamburg (Erasmus). While a student, her articles were published in several local magazines and papers. She has been working for “Politis” newspaper, in Cyprus, since 2008. Her main interests are social and health affairs. In June 2011 she was given an honourable mention from the Action “Asylum Aware” (Cyprus) for her articles on victims of racism and discrimination. She was finalist for Cyprus at the 2011 edition of the EU Health Prize for Journalists.
