National Jury Bulgaria

The jury met on 31 October 2013 and selected the Bulgarian national finalist. The name of the national finalist will be published after all the finalists are selected.


Hristo Hristov, chair

Mr Hristo Hristov is Press Officer at the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria. He worked as journalist for the press and the Bulgarian National Television.

Prof. Mariana Marinova, health expert

Prof. Mariana Marinova graduated from the Medical University of Sofia in 1971.  Since 1972 she has worked at the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical University of Sofia, where she passed through all degrees - from trainee-assistant to Chief Assistant and, since 1991, she has been an Associate Professor. She specialized in pediatrics and adolescent medicine. In 1983, she successfully defended her dissertation. She delivers lectures to students in medicine and stomatology, as well as to specializing doctors. She is the co-author of textbooks for students and specializing doctors. She has written two monographs.
Prof. Marinova has occupied different administrative positions – Head of Unit, Head of Clinic and Director of the University Children’s Hospital. She is currently Head of the Department of Paediatrics. 

Prof. Mira Kojouharova, health expert

Mira Kojouharova, Professor, MD, PhD is Deputy Director of the National Centre of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases (NCIPD), Head of Department Epidemiology and Communicable Disease Surveillance. Since 1996 she is National Consultant on Epidemiology to the Ministry of Health of Bulgaria. Prof. Kojouharova is graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Medical University, Sofia (1974). She obtained Diploma of acknowledged specialty in epidemiology from Medical University, Sofia (1979) and Diploma of Philosophy Doctor (PhD in Medicine) from the Institute of Virology "D. I. Ivanovsky", Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Moscow, Russia (1986).

Throughout the whole professional career she does research, teaching and practical work in the field of epidemiology, surveillance, control and prevention of infectious diseases.

Zlatina Georgieva

Zlatina Georgieva, journalist

Zlatina Georgieva is an editor in Grazia Magazine, focusing on social issues and women's health. She graduated from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in 2010 with a degree in journalism. She was the national winner for Bulgaria of the 2011 edition of the EU Health Prize for Journalists.

Desislava Nikolova

Desislava Nikolova, journalist

Desislava Nikolova has 20 years experience in journalism. During the last nine years she has been reporting on issues related to the healthcare sector. Desislava has a master degree in Bulgarian philology from the University of Sofia. She is currently studying health management at the Medical University in Sofia. She was one of the national winner for Bulgaria of the 2012 edition of the EU Health Prize for Journalists.
