The jury met on 29 October 2013 and selected the Belgian national finalist. The name of the national finalist will be published after all the finalists are selected.

Amara Buyse, chair

Amara Buyse is the Press Officer at the Representation of the European Commission in Belgium. Before joining the Commission she worked as columnist/journalist and worked on the launch of Google eBooks.

Maxie Eckert, journalist

Maxie Eckert is journalist at the Belgian newspaper De Standaard, where she covers public health care topics. Her article series on the quality of Flemish hospitals was awarded with the Belfius press prize 2012. Before Maxie Eckert became a journalist, she conducted research in chemistry.

Miguel Lardennois, health expert

Belgian registered nurse.
After basic nursing courses he obtains a master in public health at the French speaking Catholic University of Louvain. He has also obtained a post-master degree in Health Quality Management and in Public Health Research.
Since 2005 he has been working as scientific collaborator, expert in health professional strategies, and Chief Nursing Officer for the Belgian public health ministry.

Marc Zeicher, health expert

Marc Zeicher, (MD, MS in Radiobiology, PhD in Molecular Biology, Université Libre de Bruxelles, ULB), moved to basic research after a clinical training in oncology. His research, (at the ULB, the Weizmann Institute in Israël and the University of California in Berkeley), was devoted to the targeted therapies of cancer and autoimmune diseases, (immunotoxins, tolerance induction, targetd radiotherapy and oncolytic viruses). He is on the list of Experts of the EMEA (European Medicinal Evaluation Agency) for the fields of Oncology, Immunology and New Biotechnologies. At TTRCC (Targeted Therapies and Research and Consulting Centre, Brussels), he is developping new targeted therapies for cancer.
