Health journalism is often the cinderella of a newsroom: not as spicy as politics, not as urgent as actuality, not as perky as business. But it can also be the closest and most meaningful form of journalism if done properly, with the reader in mind. I congratulate the European Commission for encouraging this type of journalism

Andrea Glos, finalist Luxembourg, EU Health Prize for Journalists 2010
Being on stage in Brussels for the second time already, I have to say that it was again a great experience. The EU health prize for Journalists encourages us a lot on our work. We appreciate it to be appreciated on such a high level. Furthermore the ceremony gave me a good opportunity to meet colleagues from all over Europe and exchange thoughts and job related subjects. Hopefully, there might be also a third time around for me...

Gary Finnegan, finalist Ireland, EU Health Prize for Journalists 2010
These are tough times for serious journalism so this kind of incentive to look at the European dimension of health policy is very welcome. The prize connects readers with a wide range of topical issues which are not always given much attention. It can also help convince editors to consider what’s happening at EU level and how it affects their local audience, as well as supporting journalists who can write about European health.
