4 social innovators win €200,000 in 2016 European Social Innovation Competition Published on: 27/10/2016, Last update: 28/10/2016
Inge Missmahl, 2016 jury member and Managing Director of Ipso Cultural Context: “I congratulate the winners for their achievement but I am proud of all of the projects and of their journey throughout the Competition, from the coaching at the academy to creating their detailed plans to grow their ideas. Each of them has shown amazing potential to make a difference for refugees and migrants arriving and living in Europe”.
Selected from a total of over 1,000 applicants from 36 countries, the projects were each awarded a €50,000 prize at yesterday’s awards Ceremony in Brussels.
At the ceremony we heard from all 10 finalists of this year’s competition, presenting their ideas addressing the reception and integration of refugees and migrants in Europe.
Focusing on this year’s theme of ‘Integrated Futures’ we also heard from newcomers sharing their experiences arriving in Europe, as well as from the European Commission as regards support to integration and migrant entrepreneurship.
In addition to the Integrated Futures winner, we awarded a fourth ‘Impact Prize’ of €50,000 to Love Your Waste, a French social enterprise fighting food waste. Love Your Waste was a semi-finalist in the 2015 edition of the competition and has had a significant measurable impact since taking part.
We’ve truly been inspired by everyone involved in the competition this year – their passion for social innovation, their generosity and their creativity pave the way for integrated futures. To find out more about all of this year’s winners, finalists and semi-finalists, see their profiles.
