Single Market Forum 2014

Single Market Forum 2014

With the support of the European Parliament, EU countries and local partners, the European Commission hosted 20 stakeholder workshops across 16 European cities on Single Market policy areas throughout 2014 and early 2015. The objective of these workshops was to increase understanding of remaining Single Market barriers and to share best practice regarding structural reforms in some of the services-related policy areas. Nearly 600 businesses and organisations participated in the events, brining with them various experiences of the Single Market.

To ensure the better functioning of the Single Market, the 2014 Forum found that continued attention is needed for:

  • points of single contact and further sources of information
  • local requirements for registration and authorisation
  • fragmentation of regulations across countries
  • some sector-specific regulation
  • standards and certification
  • recognition of professional qualifications
  • posting of workers
  • tax
  • insurance
  • public procurement
  • lack of funding
  • linguistic, cultural and tradition-based barriers

Topics tackled at the 2014 Forum included:

  • Digital Single Market
  • Professional qualifications
  • Public procurement
  • Intellectual property rights
  • Crowdfunding
