The European Commission set up the High-Level Group (HLG) to identify the factors influencing the competitive position and sustainability of the European agro-food industry. The Group delivered a roadmap of key initiatives to boost the competitiveness of the sector.
Event date: 06/07/2009

The HLG issued a report with 30 policy recommendations and a roadmap of key initiatives to implement those recommendations.

The Commission Communication, A Better Functioning Food Supply Chain of October 2009 supported the Group's recommendations and proposed a way forward.

In 2010, the Commission replaced the Group with the High-Level Forum for a Better Functioning Food Supply Chain to follow and provide advice on the implementation of the recommendations.

Members of the Group were ministers from eight Member States, heads of companies, unions and trade associations representing the European agro-food industry, as well as representatives from civil society.

The group also met on 17 March 2009 and 12 June 2008.
