Training 2006

Two main stages are envisaged for the development of training activities. The initial stage was initiated in 2005 with the launch of several calls for tender. These calls were aimed at concluding contracts for the organisation and implementation of ad-hoc training projects.

The contracts have now been awarded to seven contractors who are responsible for the organisation of these courses. The first series of training programmes will run within the framework of this stage throughout 2006. They will cater for around 1 500 participants over 34 different events and periods of sustained training.

The second stage in the development of the future Community training strategy is analysed in a Commission Communication adopted in September 2006.

The seven activities covered by the initial stage are:

• Training Courses on HACCP;
• Training for ASEAN Countries on Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza;
• Training workshops for Third Countries on EU Food Standards for Fishery and Aquaculture Products and Fruit and Vegetables;
• A training workshop on best practices for veterinary checks in airport border inspection posts;
• A training workshop on best practices for veterinary checks in seaport border inspection posts;
• Training workshops, followed by a conclusive conference, on EU standards relating to animal by-products;
• A training workshop on welfare standards concerning the stunning and killing of animals (in slaughterhouses or disease control situations).
