Media seminar on flu pandemic preparedness and avian influenza, 17 October 2006, Brussels.
On 17 October 2006, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Consumer Protection organised a media seminar bringing together a number of leading experts from the European Commission, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the pharmaceutical industry and the World Health Organisation, with journalists from across the EU Member States. The aim of the seminar was to provide participants with a deeper understanding of pandemic preparedness planning and the steps being taken by the European Commission and the international community to tackle and prevent avian influenza in wild birds and poultry. The seminar also sought to clarify technical aspects such as the difference between flu and human seasonal flu; the different aspects of transmission and the relative properties of vaccines and anti-virals.
