In 2001, the European Commission has drafted a report on dietary food additive intake in the European Union (Com 2001/542 final) which was elaborated on the basis of the information received from the Member States.

The European Commission has initiated further work in December 2007 aiming at refining the Commission report on food additives dietary intake issued in 2001.
