Conventional
products, i.e. those produced without genetic
modification, can be contaminated
unintentionally by GMOs during harvesting,
storage, transport or processing. However,
conventional products "contaminated" in this
way will not be subject to traceability or
labelling requirements if they contain GMO
traces below a 0.9% threshold level, provided
the presence of GM material is adventitious
or technically unavoidable. This is the case
where farmers can show the competent
authorities that they have taken appropriate
measures to avoid the presence of GM
material.
