General consultation on possible approaches for the new Animal Health Law

This phase of the consultation process by a questionnaire serves to collect input on the main problems identified so far in relation to current EU animal health policy and to check, add to and, if necessary, redirect possible approaches to solving them. The document reflects the preparations made by Unit D1 in the Animal Health and Welfare Directorate of the Directorate-General for Health and Consumers with a view to drafting a new Animal Health Law and impact assessment.

Please note that this document has been drafted for information and consultation purposes only. It has not been adopted or in any way approved by the European Commission and should not be regarded as representative the views of Commission staff. The European Commission does not guarantee the accuracy of the information provided, nor does it accept responsibility for any use made thereof.

This questionnaire is addressed to anyone with a stake in animal health and welfare, especially stakeholders involved in keeping live animals and in the production of, trade in, import or export of live animals and products of animal origin, or in legal and economic affairs related to these areas including non-professional animal keepers, national organizations, associations, etc.

Consultation on administrative burden, administrative costs and compliance costs related to current Animal Health legislation and the new possible elements of the Animal Health Law

In the framework of the consultation process for the creation of the new Animal Health Law two questionnaires have been developed:

  • one addressed to the competent authorities in the Member States in charge of implementing animal health rules and
  • a second one addressed to business operators active in the animal production/trade field.

The purpose of these two questionnaires is to collect readily available data on administrative costs (cost linked to information obligations) for the competent authorities and the operators and compliance costs incurred by operators when implementing EU animal health legislation.
