EU vessels fishing shrimps and small pelagics in Mauritanian waters in the framework of the EU-Mauritania Fisheries Protocol will be able to continue to do so until 15 December 2014. This is part of the compromise which EU negotiators found last night in Nouakchott after the Mauritanian authorities had upheld the position that all EU vessels would have to leave Mauritanian waters as of 1 August 2014.

Reform package

On 13 July 2011, the European Commission presented its proposals for the reform of the EU common fisheries policy and, on 2 December 2011, it proposed a new fund for the EU's maritime and fisheries policies for the period 2014-2020: the European maritime and fisheries fund (EMFF).

The common provisions regulation

In the next programming period, to maximize the effectiveness of European Structural and Investment funds,  (the ESI funds, including the financial instruments for cohesion policy, rural development and fisheries), the Commission has proposed the common provisions regulation (COM (2011) 615). This regulation sets out a common set of basic rules for all ESI funds. This includes provisions concerning conditionality, performance review, arrangements for monitoring, reporting,  evaluation and eligibility rules.

The EMFF provisions for the management and control systems and for financial management are aligned with those of the cohesion policy financial  instruments (the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund and the Cohesion Fund). Those provisions are included in the common provisions regulation (see amendment below).
