Regional advisory councils

In June 2008 the European Commission has published a Communication reviewing the functioning of the Regional Advisory Councils (RACs). The report looks at the current framework within which the RACs function, and the contribution they have made to the CFP since the first RAC was established in 2004.

The Commission will organise a brainstorming meeting with RAC secretariats on 26 April 2010. Invitation with draft agenda enclosed.

The NWWRAC will organise a focus groiup on Celtic Sea Cod. More information available on the NWWRAC Website.

The NSRAC will organise two focus groups on Cod recovery and Whiting in Brussels o, 7 April 2010.

The NSRAC will have its next focus on Nephrops long term management plan on 30 March 2010 in London.

The Commission is organising a meeting on Small-Scale and coastal fisheries on 25/2/2010 in Brussels.

Member States, European Parliament, Committe of Regions, Economic and Social Committee and stakeholders (ACFA and RACs) are invited to participate.

The BS RAC, the Swedish Ministry of Agriculture and the European Economic and Social Committee are jointly holding a conference called: "Baltic Sea Fisheries: Lessons Learned and Future Perspectives." It will take place on 1st – 2nd October, and will take place at the Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden on the outskirts of Stockholm. The aim of the conference is to give focus to issues facing the Baltic - especially at a time when discussions on the reform of the CFP will be well underway.

RACs were set up by Council Regulation (EC) N° 2371/2002 of 20 December 2002 on the conservation and sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources under the Common Fisheries Policy. (cf. attachment)
