The main Bluefin Tuna fishing season runs from 26 May to 24 June; this is when large vessels, purse seiners, are allowed to fish for Bluefin tuna in the Mediterranean and the Eastern Atlantic.
The Bluefin tuna fishery is regulated by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) to which the EU is a contracting party.

Commission hosts high-level meeting on maritime affairs and fisheries in the Black Sea

European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Maria Damanaki is hosting a high-level brainstorming meeting in Brussels on Friday 14 October on increased cooperation on fisheries and maritime affairs in the Black Sea area.

Ministers, secretaries of state and Members of the European Parliament from Bulgaria and Romania as well as high-level officials and experts on the Black Sea from the World Bank, FAO and the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank will participate in the debates. 

The meeting will cover several issues such as fisheries cooperation, cross-border and cross-sectoral cooperation in coastguard functions, maritime safety, security and ship pollution prevention and marine and maritime research.

The meeting will be held in the Commission headquarters, Berlaymont, from 9h15 to 12h30 (ministerial session) and from 14h00 to 17h30 (project-oriented session). The meeting will be web-streamed at the following link:
