The European Commission has tabled its annual proposal on next year’s guide prices for fresh and frozen fisheries products as well as the EU producer price for tuna for processing. The market for fisheries products appears to be recovering, following the dramatic drops in first-sale prices in 2009.

Organisations de producteurs

Organisation commune des marchés des produits de la pêche

Les organisations de producteurs (OP) visent à permettre aux producteurs (pêcheurs ou aquaculteurs) de coopérer pour gérer leurs ressources de manière optimale, sur les plans tant économique qu'écologique. À cet effet, ils élaborent un programme opérationnel annuel, que tous leurs membres doivent respecter.

Ce programme, qui inclut une stratégie commerciale, détermine comment les captures et la production seront réparties tout au long de la saison de pêche, afin d'éviter les excédents et les pénuries. Les OP doivent s'efforcer d'anticiper les difficultés, et pas seulement d'y réagir. Elles sont habilitées à sanctionner leurs membres qui ne respectent pas leur plan de production. Seuls les producteurs appartenant à une OP peuvent bénéficier du régime de soutien des prix de l'UE.

Récemment, certaines OP ont endossé une responsabilité accrue en matière de gestion de la pêche, par exemple en gérant le taux d'utilisation des quotas de leurs membres, pour veiller à ce qu'il ne dépasse pas leur quota total.
