TAC e quotas
Os totais admissíveis de capturas (TAC) limitam as capturas para as unidades populacionais de peixes mais importantes do ponto de vista comercial. Os TAC são propostos pela Comissão com base em pareceres científicos sobre o estado das unidades populacionais em questão e, em seguida, adoptados pelo Conselho dos Ministros da Pesca.
Os TAC são estabelecidos anualmente para a maioria das unidades populacionais e de dois em dois anos para as espécies de profundidade, cada vez mais no contexto de planos plurianuais.
Os TAC são repartidos entre os países da UE ao abrigo do sistema de «estabilidade relativa» que mantém as quotas nacionais estáveis em relação umas às outras, mesmo quando a quantidade de peixe que pode ser pescada varia em função da produtividade das unidades populacionais.
