TAC y cuotas
Los totales admisibles de capturas (TAC) son límites de capturas establecidos para las poblaciones de peces comercialmente más importantes. Los propone la Comisión, basándose en los dictámenes científicos sobre el estado de las poblaciones, y los aprueba el Consejo de Ministros de Pesca.
Los TAC se establecen anualmente para la mayoría de las poblaciones y cada dos años para las de aguas profundas. Para cada vez más poblaciones se establecen de acuerdo con planes plurianuales.
Los TAC se reparten entre los países de la UE según el sistema llamado de "estabilidad relativa", que mantiene estable cada cuota nacional respecto a las demás aunque la cantidad total de peces que puede capturarse varíe según la productividad de las poblaciones.
