Samlede tilladte fangstmængder (TAC'er) og kvoter

De samlede tilladte fangstmængder (TAC'er) er fangstbegræsninger, der gælder for de største kommercielle fiskebestande. Kommissionen stiller forslag til TAC'er ud fra videnskabelige udtalelser om de pågældende bestandes tilstand. TAC'erne vedtages af EU-landenes fiskeriministre i Ministerrådet.
EU fastsætter TAC'er hvert år for de fleste bestande og hvert andet år for dybhavsarter. For et stigende antal bestande fastsættes TAC'erne på grundlag af flerårige planer.
EU-landene deler TAC'erne imellem sig ud fra princippet om "relativ stabilitet". Det går ud på at sørge for, at de nationale kvoter ligger stabilt i forhold til hinanden, selv om den samlede tilladte fangstmængde varierer efter fiskebestandenes produktivitet.
