Fiskeansträngning

Regler för den s.k. fiskeansträngningen begränsar den fiskeflotta som ger sig ut till havs och den tid som den får fiska.

Fiskeansträngningen beräknas genom att multiplicera fiskekapaciteten med den tid som tillbringas till havs. I EU används två sätt att räkna ut fiskekapaciteten – det ena sättet bygger på fartygets storlek uttryckt i bruttoton, det andra på motoreffekten uttryckt i kilowatt. Begränsningarna fastställs därefter i bruttoton (BT)/dag eller KW/dag.

Begränsningarna är viktiga för att förebygga överfiske, och de ingår därför i alla fleråriga planer som ska hjälpa nedfiskade bestånd att återhämta sig.
