Effort de pêche
Les limitations de l'effort de pêche restreignent le tonnagede la flotte autorisée à naviguer et le tempspassé à pêcher.
L'effort de pêche est calculé en multipliant la capacité de pêche déployée par la durée pendant laquelle elle est à l'œuvre. L'Union européenne utilise deux méthodes pour mesurer la capacité de pêche: la première est fondée sur la taille du navire, en tonnage brut; la seconde, sur la puissance de ses moteurs, exprimée en kilowatts. La limitation de l'effort est donc fixée soit en GT-jour, soit en kW-jour.
Les limitations de l'effort de pêche sont importantes pour prévenir la surexploitation des ressources. C'est pourquoi ce type de mesures figure dans tous les plans pluriannuels visant au repeuplement des stocks proches de l'épuisement.
