The European Commission has welcomed the great strides made by Latvia in addressing the shortcomings of its national fisheries control system.
The European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) has adopted its Multiannual Work Programme for 2015-2019 and the Annual Work Programme at the meeting of the Administrative Board held on 17 of October 2014.
The European Commission welcomes the broad support the “Omnibus regulation” received today in Council.

EU's fiskerikontrolsystem

For at sikre, at den fælles fiskeripolitiks regler overholdes i praksis, omfatter politikken også et kontrolsystem med de nødvendige redskaber til at håndhæve reglerne.

For at håndhæve den fælles fiskeripolitiks regler er der indført et kontrolsystem, som skal:

  • sikre, at der kun fanges de tilladte mængder
  • indsamle de data, der er nødvendige for at forvalte fiskerimulighederne
  • afklare, hvilken rolle EU-landene og Kommissionen skal spille
  • sikre, at reglerne anvendes ensartet for alle fiskere, med harmoniserede sanktioner i hele EU
  • sikre, at fiskeprodukter kan spores og tjekkes gennem hele forsyningskæden fra båd til bord.

Systemet er fastlagt i den rådsforordning, der trådte i kraft den 1. januar 2010, og som moderniserede EU's tilgang til fiskerikontrol gennemgribende. Mere specifikt bragte den systemet i overensstemmelse med de strenge forholdsregler, EU vedtog i 2008 for at bekæmpe ulovligt fiskeri.
